Office Plant Spotlight: Stromanthe

We are featuring this plant because of its beautiful tricolour foliage. It is a plant that commands your attention. It screams “hey look at me!”
We just completed an installation at a client in Mississauga and wanted to share the journey with you. Before the journey begins, let’s talk about the plant itself.
Stromanthe is a genus of plant in family Marantaceae, native to the tropical portions of the Americas from Mexico to Trinidad to northern Argentina.

Back Story:

The client’s office is a very modern and chic office that boasts an open concept with a red theme. A plant in the lunch room needed replacing as it had really past its prime and wasn’t doing justice to the client’s modern lunch room.
The client agreed to chuck it and this was the start of the hunt for a perfect replacement. Our Interiorscape Design team kicked into gear.

The Hunt:
Calls were made to our suppliers and many visits were made to various nurseries until the Stromanthe was discovered! It was love at first sight. The order was placed and picked up in the loading bay.

Preparation:
The plant was then acclimated and treated organically for any dormant soil or foliage insects.

Planter:
The next step in the journey was to find the complementary planter. This was the easy part, the perfect match was found in the Lechuza Cubico 40 (red).
